The Wilson Sisters of Heart: From Rock to Lullabies

Lullabies

Lullabies

A snippet from ParentDish: Ann Wilson: It’s hard. My 18-year-old girl doesn’t want to come out on the road anymore. She’s old enough to take care of herself while I’m gone. But my [11-year-old] son is too young to be left here without me. They’ve been coming out on the road since they were babies. My son was out when he was four weeks old. He wants to come out, he loves it. More from this interview with Ann & Nancy

Heart’s Nancy Wilson Cures Insomnia With ‘Baby Guitars’

Baby Guitars

Baby Guitars

Spinner.com: Heart’s Nancy Wilson has a cure for insomnia. It’s not pharmaceutical, it’s not herbal and it doesn’t require reading self-help books. The guitarist has made a CD of soothing lullabies, ‘Baby Guitars,’ that initially was designed to woo babies into the land of slumber. “A friend of mine was having a baby a few years back and the idea came up that a good gift would be lullabies of instrumental guitar music, acoustic music,” Wilson tells Spinner. “I put that together in part and she raved about it. She said it really, really worked and I should finish it.”

So, Wilson brought in Heart guitarist Craig Bartock and the veteran rock band’s keyboard player Debbie Shair to finish the record. It just so happened that Wilson and her sister, Heart singer Ann, were already working on a bedtime storybook, ‘Dog & Butterfly,’ which is based on Heart’s 1978 song of that name. Ann wrote the text and the pair illustrated the story together. “We’re both mothers and doing things for the little ones is one of the best things to do,” Nancy says. Both the book and CD were released simultaneously, Oct. 6, through Amazon, and the Wilsons’ friends who’ve tried the CD to lull their children to sleep have already scored it with full marks. “The reviews just kept coming back, even from my own kids, that it really helps them settle into a sleep,” Nancy says. “It creates a comfortable atmosphere to fall asleep to.”

The big question is, does it work for insomniac adults also? “I’ve given it to a lot of my bigger friends too, my adult friends,” Nancy laughs. “They really like to put it on to create a relaxed mood. It’s a really nice dinnertime mood or at bedtime. It works for big people, too.

2009 is all about Dog & Butterfly

2009 version!?

2009 version!?

2009 is shaping up as an important year for all you Heartmongers who specially love Dog & Butterfly, the fourth Heart album (featuring f.i the smashes Straight On and Dog & butterfly, but also the song Mistral wind, quite possibly monger’s most favorite). Although released late 1978, the album went platinum in 1979, which is 30 years ago! That is a reason for some specialties. My favourite from that album has to be Hijinx! (What’s yours?)

A new children’s book is in the works and Heart is releasing 500 copy’s of a special 30th anniversary plaque.

Anniversary plaque

Heart has started taking pre-orders for a special plaque that can be personalized. Prices start at 150 dollars and only 500 will be printed. More information on how to get one can be found at the official site.

Children’s book (from prefixmag.com)

The sisters Nancy and Ann Wilson, the core members of Heart, have recently realized that they possess the degree of notoriety neccessary to pen a children’s book and make a decent buck off of it. Heart’s book, due at the end of the year, will be based on the band’s 1978 album Dog & Butterfly, and come with a cd that contains new versions of that song and the track “Dreamboat Annie.”

Guitarist Nancy Wilson told Billboard.com, “We always wanted to do a children’s book of some form or another.”Ann pretty much did the writing, and I kind of was her editor. She made the initial drawings of the dog and I did the butterfly. She drew the characters, mostly, and I painted them. And then we had an artist come in and kind of fill in some of the other designs ’cause we’re kind of busy right now. It looks really good. It’s really simple.”

Band hits studio early 2009

From their publisher in a press release:

´The band will hit the studio in early 2009 to record their 14th album´.

´And Heart are gearing up to mark the 30th anniversary of their classic double-platinum album Dog & Butterfly in 2009 with special events and celebrations´.

From management on the official BBS: So far they’ve written five songs – which i have not heard. Producer is not attached yet.

And from Nancy herself on her journal: We are busy writing for the new studio Heart album and start recording in about 5 weeks.
